Personal Bodyguard
Role Description A Personal Bodyguard is responsible for providing professional personal-protection services to individuals, executives, VIPs, families, and other clients who require enhanced security and privacy. The role focuses on threat awareness, protective planning, secure transportation, situational awareness, emergency response, and maintaining a safe environment for the protected person.
Key responsibilities include conducting protective-security assessments and identifying potential risks, vulnerabilities, and security concerns; developing and implementing appropriate protection plans based on schedules, locations, events, travel arrangements, and changing circumstances; providing close-protection coverage during daily activities, business meetings, public appearances, events, travel, and other engagements; conducting advance planning for venues, routes, accommodations, meeting locations, and event sites; monitoring surroundings and identifying unusual behavior, potential hazards, unauthorized access, and emerging security concerns; coordinating secure arrival, departure, movement, and access arrangements; supporting secure transportation and route planning while maintaining awareness of traffic, environmental, and security conditions; coordinating with drivers, security personnel, event organizers, venue management, assistants, law-enforcement authorities, and other relevant personnel when appropriate; maintaining professional communication with the protected person while respecting privacy, confidentiality, and personal preferences; managing access and assisting with controlled entry to designated areas; responding calmly and appropriately to emergencies, medical incidents, accidents, security concerns, and unexpected disruptions; maintaining emergency-response procedures and coordinating with appropriate emergency services when required; supporting travel-security planning for domestic and international movements; monitoring changes to schedules, locations, routes, and event conditions and adapting protection arrangements accordingly; maintaining accurate security logs, incident reports, travel records, and relevant documentation; inspecting and maintaining approved protective equipment, communication devices, vehicles, first-aid supplies, and other security resources; following applicable laws, security regulations, organizational procedures, and client requirements; maintaining strict confidentiality regarding the protected person's identity, movements, schedule, residence, business activities, family information, and personal affairs; using GPS, secure communications, scheduling platforms, incident-management systems, risk-monitoring tools, and other security technologies where appropriate; maintaining professional conduct and discretion in public and private environments; coordinating with security teams to maintain appropriate coverage and communication; participating in emergency-response, first-aid, defensive-driving, and security training; and continuously improving situational awareness, protective planning, communication, emergency preparedness, and client safety.
Qualifications
- Professional training or certification in close protection, executive protection, personal security, security management, or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of personal protection, situational awareness, threat identification, security planning, and emergency procedures.
- Strong observation, communication, decision-making, and situational-awareness skills.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and focused during stressful or rapidly changing situations.
- Knowledge of defensive driving, secure transportation, route planning, and vehicle safety is advantageous.
- First-aid, CPR, emergency-response, or medical-response certification is advantageous.
- Strong physical fitness and ability to maintain readiness for extended periods of movement or standing.
- Strong knowledge of security protocols, access control, venue assessment, travel security, and protective operations.
- Familiarity with GPS navigation, secure communication systems, incident-reporting platforms, and modern security technology.
- Knowledge of security-risk assessment, travel-risk monitoring, surveillance awareness, and emergency planning is beneficial.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive personal, business, travel, and security information.
- Strong interpersonal and customer-service skills with the ability to interact professionally with executives, family members, staff, clients, venue personnel, and security teams.
- Ability to work collaboratively with drivers, security personnel, event teams, law enforcement, medical personnel, and other authorized stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage schedules, travel plans, security arrangements, and changing priorities.
- Relevant security licenses or close-protection qualifications required by the applicable jurisdiction are advantageous or necessary where applicable.
- Experience with executive protection, corporate security, VIP protection, residential security, or travel security is beneficial.
- High level of integrity, discretion, professionalism, reliability, discipline, and responsibility.
- Strong commitment to safety, confidentiality, preparedness, lawful conduct, and professional protection standards.
