Running from January to April 2026, this year's module paired students from select undergraduate Business programmes with Caribbean Elective, an organisation based in Saint Lucia, with Esuri Bandara serving as the project's partnership manager. The collaboration has already produced a tangible outcome for one of the participating students. Arati Raut, a graduate of Middlesex University London who completed the module, has been offered a role with Caribbean Elective, the organisation her project team worked with.In its first run,15 selected students on the module coordinate across three time zones and differing academic calendars without meeting in person, using digital collaboration tools to manage projects and deliver consulting outputs. The module is designed and led by Sabrina Akbar, Senior Lecturer in International Business at MDX London, with Rory McConnon, Senior Lecturer in Management at MDX Dubai and Vikram Gungah, Lecturer in Business in Mauritius forming the cross-campus teaching team. Students who complete the module receive a joint certification from all three campuses.Rory McConnon, the module's Dubai-based tutor, said:"This module works because our three campuses genuinely work as one. Students in Dubai, London and Mauritius are addressing the same opportunities for the same client at the same time, and that kind of collaboration is exactly what prepares them for global careers."Dita Mazalová, an MDX Dubai BA Hons International Business student on the module, said: “What made this journey especially meaningful was the teamwork. Coordinating across time zones, balancing our studies, work, and delivering everything fully online required a level of collaboration that is rarely taught in classrooms.”Divya Napaul, a Middlesex University Mauritius student on the module, said: “This project helped me grow not only academically but also personally. It strengthened my ability to adapt, collaborate, and think strategically in a real consulting context.”Following the module, Caribbean Elective offered Arati a position as Business and Enterprise Facilitator, a role in which she supports local entrepreneurs and guides business students through their own placement projects. She is currently working with a 30-year-old cruise company on a business strategy project.Arati said: "My learning from the module has been a fundamental tool in my job here, helping me navigate the process of building a business strategy and supporting students with both theoretical and practical knowledge."Arati credited her module leaders and Esuri for the opportunity:"I'd like to take this opportunity to thank my module leaders Sabrina, Vikram and Rory for making this once-in-a-lifetime experience possible. I'd also like to thank Esuri, Partnership Manager at Caribbean Elective, who spotted my potential and referred me for this role, which I went on to secure after an interview."

Computer Systems Engineering Student Selected for International Space Mission to Russia

Friday, July 17, 2026

Shafaq Mandha, a BEng (Hons) Computer Systems Engineering student from the Class of 2026 at Middlesex University (MDX) Dubai, has been selected for ORBITA-26, an international satellite mission organised by Lab of Future in collaboration with the Future of Education, Russia.Chosen from a select group of students across the UAE, Shafaq will take part in an intensive space engineering programme in which she and her team will design, build and integrate a functioning satellite, before travelling to Moscow, Russia, to represent the UAE and launch it into orbit. Now in its second season, ORBITA moves participants beyond theory and into authentic aerospace engineering work, covering CubeSat and satellite systems, robotics, electronics and sensor integration, and C++ programming for space applications, all delivered alongside Russian aerospace engineers. The UAE team placed second globally in the programme's first season.Training for ORBITA-26 began on the week of 13 July 2026 at Lab of Future's Space Science, Tech and Research Lab in Dubai, where Shafaq and her fellow team members are working under the guidance of space engineers and international experts ahead of the final tournament in Russia this October. The opportunity is supported by Professor Fehmida Hussain, Head of the Computer Engineering and Informatics Department and Head and Founder of the Middlesex Innovation Hub (MIH) and Dr Judhi Prasetyo, Senior Lecturer Computer Engineering and Informatics, Head & Founder of STARS Lab through the STARS Lab and the Centre of Excellence for Foresight and Emerging Technologies at MDX Dubai, which gives students access to one of the region's most advanced hands-on space engineering programmes.Shafaq's selection follows a strong track record in the field. She has previously won a competition run jointly by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and the Saudi Space Agency, and is currently taking part in a NASA-affiliated asteroid search campaign alongside CEI students, in addition to her wider contributions to research projects and technical workshops at the university.Shafaq now moves into ORBITA-26's development phase, working towards the final tournament in Moscow this October, where the UAE team will look to build on last season's second-place global finish.

Preparing Students for an AI-Driven Future Through University-Wide AI Literacy

Friday, July 10, 2026

More than 3,000 students at Middlesex University (MDX) Dubai have taken part in a university-wide AI literacy programme designed to prepare graduates for a workplace increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence. As employers place growing emphasis on AI skills and responsible use of emerging technologies, the initiative ensures every student, from foundation level through to postgraduate study, develops a shared understanding of how AI works and how to apply it critically, ethically and effectively. The Foundations of AI Literacy course was developed after staff identified a gap in how students were being introduced to the technology. Guidance on AI use varied across disciplines, and there was a need for a shared framework underpinning students' understanding of AI fundamentals or responsible use. Over a four-month period during the summer of 2025, a cross-functional team of academic and professional services staff designed and built the course, drawing on existing tools and software to give every student a consistent foundation in AI, regardless of programme or level of study. The course is structured around three modules:The ‘Understand’ module introduces the fundamentals of artificial intelligence, including how AI models are trained and the role of data. The ‘Evaluate’ module develops critical thinking skills, helping students recognise bias and hallucinations in AI-generated outputs while assessing which tools are appropriate for different tasks. The ‘Use’ module focuses on practical application, equipping students with effective prompting techniques and the confidence to use AI tools responsibly in everyday academic and professional settings.Jaspreet Sethi, Senior Lecturer in Information Technology at MDX Dubai, said: "Artificial intelligence is evolving at a pace that means every student, regardless of discipline, needs to pay attention. The graduates who stand out won't simply be those who know how to use AI tools, but those who understand their limitations, question their outputs and apply them ethically and responsibly. Those are the capabilities employers are increasingly looking for, and they are essential skills for the future of work."The initiative also supports the UAE National AI Strategy 2031, which identifies developing an AI-ready workforce as a national priority. Since launching at the start of the 2025–26 academic year, more than 3,000 students have participated in the course. Pre- and post-course surveys recorded a statistically significant increase in students' confidence in understanding and using AI responsibly, alongside strong satisfaction ratings across five measured areas: confidence in AI concepts, engagement with course content, critical evaluation of AI tools, practical application skills, and course accessibility. The university's commitment to AI literacy extends well beyond a single course. AI is increasingly being embedded into teaching, assessment and professional learning opportunities across programmes, ensuring students graduate with both subject expertise and the digital capabilities employers increasingly expect. Rather than treating AI as a standalone discipline, the emphasis is on helping students understand how emerging technologies can be applied thoughtfully and effectively within their chosen profession.MBA (Daytime Delivery) students recently took part in an AI Hackathon within their curriculum, alongside an AI session delivered through point a., the university's in-house upskilling academy, on 26 June 2026. More than 245 students participated, exploring how AI can be applied to real business challenges and decision-making.Pavithra Dhanasekaran, MBA Daytime Delivery (General Pathway) student, said "Things like the MBA AI Hackathon shift how I think about my own future. Going into it, AI still felt like something happening around me rather than something I could actually use. Sitting in the session and realising how much of it comes down to asking the right questions and prompts changed that completely. I left thinking differently about how I work, and about what I want to be able to demonstrate to future employers. It's given me confidence that I'm graduating ready for a workplace where AI is becoming part of everyday business."A significant number of programmes have built AI competencies directly into their curricula, for example; on the BA Honours Advertising, PR and Branding programme, students take a compulsory module on AI and Digital Communications, which examines the intersection of artificial intelligence, digital marketing and communications strategy, including the ethical considerations of AI-driven communications practice. Meanwhile, the BA Hons Fashion students are taught ethical use of AI and technology within their design and research processes. By building AI knowledge and literacy before graduation, MDX Dubai prepares students for the evolving workplace and the opportunities AI will present throughout their future careers.

Upcoming Events

7

August

8

August

10

August

11

August

12

August

15

August

17

August

22

August

10

September

12

September

14

September

15

September

16

September

19

September

20

September

29

September

30

September

2

October

3

October

4

October

17

October

18

October

19

October

20

October

21

October

25

October

26

October

27

October

2

November

3

November

7

November

8

November

21

November

23

November

11:00 AM GST

Mentorship Day - GENIE Recruitment

GENIE Team | In-person | Mentorship Day

Join us for Mentorship Day with GENIE Recruitment, an interactive event designed to connect students with industry professionals and r...

Your journey starts here

World-class UK education in the heart of Dubai

At MDX Dubai, you’ll experience a world-class British university education with a difference.
